A new day has dawned for people who have too much stuff to keep at home. Mini self storage centers have been around forever. You pay your fee and you get a private storage cubicle. They vary in quality but most provide dry, secure self storage for everything from grandma’s dishes to antique cars. They pop up like mushrooms after a rainstorm in along the edges of affluent neighborhoods and interstate exits. For a few buck a month you can store items that aren’t bothered by weather and temperature changes. Now you have better options.

A few ambitious storage companies have discovered empty former grocery stores or other retail space which can be rented cheap and are converting them to climate controlled self storage centers. These are great if you have extra furniture or anything with cloth that don’t fare well in extreme temperature variations possible at the conventional self storage center. All climate storage centers also tend to have better security and can be used for antiques and artwork.
